So I'm super happy and very thankful to all of you for your feedback and help.  You voted, and here are the results!

First character so far will be female, and a loud outspoken punk girl.  Since this is someone I can definitely relate to I'm think my first few sketches of her will be roughly based on me.  (Head inflating ego trip here we go!)  So keep your soggy balls of viewing peeled for my first few sketches of her.  I will want feedback.  

I'm already more excited and happier with this than any other comic thing I've tried to start, so thanks everyone for your help.  With somethings I can never make up my mind, but other things even if you don't like them I will go through with them.  

Roughly I'm thinking main character- female- loves the secondary character- punk- doesn't care much about others opinions- and I'm playing with the idea of her being a lesbian who starts seriously questioning her sexuality
Secondary character- male- best friends with main character- gay- possibly brings in the third main character by falling for him?
Third main character- male- not too sure yet about him except definitely male

And if I start going over board on the polls sorry, I get impatient lol.  Oh and also, this will be some more adult people that I doodle about.  I love teenage angst, but it's very overplayed.  I want to do something with people old enough that they should be well adjusted, but something happens and they get thrown for a loop.  

I was also falling in love with the idea of some substance abuse issues going on.  I'm not a hard core drug user, but I drink and smoke, so I've been trying to find some docs on this sort of thing and heroin is a pretty nasty drug.  Plus I love the movie trainspotting.  If you don't know what that is then for shame.  So just so you know kiddies this will be a pretty mature themed comic I'm going for.  I'm feeling gritty and dirty and real raw stuff coming.  No schoolyard gossip fights here.  So grab something hard and sturdy and get ready for the ride.  I want this to go far.
